2006 DALE THEIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT
MATISHA STRATTON, RMR
Presented by Kathy Scheer 2005 Recipient
One of the really great things that can happen in a person's life is to be able to serve their profession and then receive an award for it!  I am truly honored to have received the 2005 Dale Theis Distinguished Service Award.  I enjoy being the Chief Examiner, and believe me, I'd much rather give those tests than take them!

On January 29, 1979, Dale Theis and Judge Eugene McFadden were killed instantly in a car-train collision near Norfolk.  Dale was very active in our state association, and this award is given in his name each year to recognize individuals for their service to the reporting community.

Thank you for the nominations that were sent.  It's been a difficult decision.  There are so many dedicated people in this organization, and we are so very fortunate to have each and every one of them.

This year's Dale Theis Distinguished Service Award recipient is an official reporter.  When I was making phone calls to find out some information I had the opportunity to visit with her judge.  He wanted me to convey that he has been so impressed with her competence and her dedication.  She's willing to chip in and help her bailiff or the other judges when a reporter is away.  He says she is a joy to work with, and he really appreciates her good humor and lightheartedness, which is frequent.  He feels fortunate to have someone of her quality as his court reporter.

Our recipient comes from a military family.  She was born in Hampton, Virginia, and the family settled in the Alliance, Nebraska, area in 1986.  After graduation from high school she went to UNL for a year, then decided that she would check out the court reporting program at Lincoln School of Commerce.  After graduating with her reporting degree she went back to western Nebraska, where she freelanced for a year and then became the official court reporter for Judge Silverman.  Her husband, Andrew, sought employment as a firefighter/paramedic, at which time they moved to Omaha, where Tish worked with Judge Randall and is presently working with Judge Patrick Mullen.

Tish has been the secretary of NOCRA and secretary/treasurer of NeCRA for at least the past four years.  She has developed NeCRA policies regarding spending for attendance at seminars by representatives of NeCRA.  you've all received e-mails from Tish keeping you informed on what's happening.  Tomorrow she will be sworn in as the President-Elect of NOCRA.

Andrew served overseas and was away from Tish and their two daughters, Bethany and Adrienne, for quite a length of time.

Being a single parent, maintaining a household and yard, having a full-time job and performing her secretarial duties for the association evidently didn't keep Tish busy enough.  She went back to school at Bellevue University and obtained a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration in June of 2005, graduating with a GPA of 3.96.

It is indeed an honor and a privilege to present the 2006 Dale Theis Distinguished Service Award to Matisha Stratton.

Thank you, Tish, for all your dedication and endless work on behalf of all of us.
